Trail Running

Driving to Victoria in the dark Thues morning , you kind of wonder, what is everyone doing out this early in the morning , it seemed like a chaos on the road with every one heading of for work , makes me glad that I dont have to do this every morning, coming back from Victoria were Gail had been at a uvic breakfast fund raiser while i went to the cafeteria for the students and had breakfast there, coming home I went for a walk and later Gail and I spent the evening at the Ladysmith rec centre me doing machine workouts and Gail doing Pilate's and spin classes, Wed an other busy day and lacing up my runners I headed out doors for a run to ladysmith and the top of Holland creek trail which is getting covered in leaves so its hard to see the obstructions that are laying on the trail, by the water reservoir I headed back on the hilly trail I had come from, the sun is more noticeable on the way back and causes more of a glare so it is harder to see the trail when you are running and a couple of times I stepped on rocks and roots and you find out that your ankles are ready for trail running so it was a good thing I didnt go over to far on my ankles , To the reservoir and back to saltair I covered 14 k.m so that was a good run in the morning doing a road workout and trail run ,In the evening I was at the gym again doing a half hour of hill running on the treadmill and then an other fifteen minutes on the stationery bike trying to keep the turn over or the cadence from 90 to 100+ revolutions , this I managed to do by not cranking up the resistance two high, Then it was back to saltair and home. Why do I train when i hardly race? I imagine if i dont train I dont gain and would only get out of shape, I like trail running and find with trail running your feet land different you have to be able to chance from a long stride to a shorter stride if you run into an obstacle , Going up hill and down hill takes different strides, when running down hill you have to be able to spot rocks you can slow down on, or use them as stepping stones to help you move along, running on grass your feet land different then on pavement and you have to get used to that feel, when running up hill, land and push off with the front of your feet if you land on your heels going up hill injuries usually occur. Have fun,, Run.

In running, it doesnt matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say,I have finished; There is a lot of satisfaction in having accomplished that goal, its a great feeling. Runnertwo
