Hill Running

Today Dave and myself went for a run which consisted of a few hills and undulating roads, I like using that word it seems to have so many meanings and questions and seems to leave many runners shaking their heads and thinking "undulating ?" The strength work that you do with your hill running strengthens your tendons and ligaments and it helps with your running form, Running uphill makes your muscles work harder and with more power, seeing they have to fight gravity to move you and your body up the hill, this gives you more power which gives you a faster and longer running stride, While training in the gym you usually do strength train for individual muscles, like squats, leg extensions and shoulder presses,And in contrast real hill running forces the leg muscles in your hips, legs, ankles and feet to work in unison with the rest of your body, just as they do while your on a normal run. I find that doing hill work outs is like doing sprint workouts. To use a shorter and faster stride going uphill I find that less energy is used, by not over extending your stride past the mid point of your body and just leaning forward a bit and moving your arms a bit faster to drive your legs. Dave and I ran Gaits rd twice and did the loop around Saltair each time. Run Safe -- Be seen when running in the dark.

In running, it doesnt matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say,I have finished; There is a lot of satisfaction in having accomplished that goal, its a great feeling. Runnertwo
