Welcome to my blog. I started this blog to talk about the running and hiking that I do and just ramble along about the things I enjoy.. Nothing’s impossible, I have found -- For when my chin is on the ground ----- I pick myself up, dust myself off, And start all over again—

Sunday Morning
O-kay I didn't go for a run this morning , but instead found myself at Brechin point marina in an outrigger canoe . we didn't have enough people out this morning to fill two boats, so we ended up with five people in the 6 man and 3 people in the four man boat. the wind seemed to be coming from the north east , this is something we usually look out for were the heck is the wind coming from this time we headed into the wind coming from the North East , It wasn't bad heading to the ferry terminal and the north point of New castle island , Here the wind and waves picked it up and we were heading further away from land , this was so that we wouldn't have to fight the waves but to ride the waves back to shore. I have been out all of three times in the out rigger and it seems I have an lot to improve on, the one I have to work on is technique and strenght It seems like it doesn't matter how good I think I am . I am reminded of what I have to do to improve by the steer person and Gail who lately has maneged to sit behind me to scrutinize my way of paddling. So today with five people in the boat we seemed to have the heavy weights in the back of the boat and two light weights in the front of the boat, so when we were planing over the waves the front two people had an hard time reaching the water below us, Okay that not a good enough excuse for putting my paddle in the water all the way, The other thing I have to work at is twisting my upper body so that I can reach forward with my paddle when I stick the paddle in so that I don't get in the comfortable position of just rotating the Paddle in a oval motion , but to pull the paddle out when it gets to my hips, If you leave the paddle in past your hips the paddle is in upward motion and you have no power left in your paddle pull, so It is all these little things I have to work on,reading in a book by Malcom Cladwell called -The Outliers - it takes ten thousand hours to be good , So I have some time to go , after all I have six hours all ready.

I don't think I like being called one of the heavyweights! He must mean one of the good paddlers. Canoeing is like life, good technique and teamwork will take you anywhere!
