Get Set !

Waking up to the Sun shining outside on Sunday morning it looked like a good day for a race, So we were getting ready and having our coffee to wake up ready for our ride to Sooke , But we got a phone message saying the Malahat was closed due to a flipped over fuel truck which closed the hwy to the race and seeing there was no alternate route, there was no racing today  for me .--- April 16-Race day Sunday and off we go to Sooke to run a 10 k.m race. It's been a while since I raced and already I'm wondering how to run my race,  where should i start and should i go fast at the start and coast in to the finishes having started to fast or just play it by ear and hope I can keep up with the competition . I guess the biggest competition is myself and how fast I want to go . Did you know that  at the start of a race you  get  an adrenaline rush , this only last for a few seconds and if you dont use it you lose it  seeing you cant use it later in the race , this rush you get can help you get out from the main pack and after  about 5 seconds  you go back to your normal pace  breathing hard but away from the main pack . Last year I started this same race running behind Dave a big guy and he cleared the route for me and I didnt have to worry about getting stepped on or tripped by every eager runner trying to have an good start  and to beat the person besides them. You wonder if you have enough miles behind you to run the distance, what to wear and if your running shoes are going to come loose so that you can stop for a breather to tie them up properly, which you should have done at the start of the race.  with the slight chance it rains tomorrow I find that when its raining I run faster . why is that?? It could be that my runners grip the road better I watch the rain falling as I run and my clothes are getting wet and I just want to get home because i'm getting tired. So tomorrow I run my race and try to stay relaxed. Hope we all have a good run.

In running, it doesnt matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say,I have finished; There is a lot of satisfaction in having accomplished that goal, its a great feeling. Runnertwo
